You are completely right to complain there was no new issue of the newspaper for a long time. Our problem is the same - it is distribution. But if every dear reader distributes a dozen of copies we will be able to publish more often and even in more copies.
Moreover, we’d like to notice the following. Money you send us for the newspaper are being directed only at its publishing. The “For Freedom” group has also the Fund for support of political prisoner composed of voluntary donations. Unfortunately, there is not much money. A sum which has never exceeded six thousand roubles in being collected for several months. Hence, notwithstanding our wish, we cannot help everybody. Reproaches like “We have even received money from abroad for our political prisoner but you send us nothing” come to wrong people. We have to help materially first of all those who don’t receive money from abroad. Of course, this situation may be changed and must be changed but everything depends on you, dear reader.
Let us remind that the Fund finances are spent only at support of political prisoners. We can help others only by information if the question is authorities’ lawlessness or materially from personal funds or finances passed to our Fund directly for those people.
The following has happened in our political prisoners’ life during “summer vacations”. The last defendant on the NRA [New Revolutionary Alternative] case Olga Nevskaya was released after six years of imprisonment, and we heartily congratulate her on it. National Bolsheviks sentenced on the case of self-defense near Taganskiy courthouse were released, too.
However, the number of the prisoners in the list has not decreased unfortunately - the authorities take care of it. The journalist Boris Stomakhin was for the next time groundlessly denied conditional release. The “For Freedom” correspondent Igor Fedorovich was denied release from the Psychiatric Facility No. 5. The prisoner on “Odessa case” Igor Danilov was transferred from the hospital where he had been cured for tuberculosis to the Krivoy Rog penal colony where he had served his punishment before. As far as we know, in the colony he was beaten by its administration and sent back to the hospital. Now he is in the Krivoy Rog colony again. A visit to him and, depending on the situation, an intercession for his transfer to another institution in Ukraine are planned for November.
An “attorney” Rekant’s lawsuit against the “Odessa case” Ilya Romanov is being examined now by the Nizhniy Novgorod trial. This “valiant” lawyer had represented Ilya’s interests on the episode when Ilya had been charged of drugs dealing. The Strasbourg Court has asserted Romanov’s rightness, Russia has paid him his compensation which has been tied-up at his bank account until his release. On this occasion Rekant has decided to adjudge the “ownerless” money as a payment for his services. It is necessary to mention that under condition of winning the case a lawyer’s services are paid completely by the European Court decision, and this sum is not included into the compensation paid by Russia to the winner party.
