At this small period between issues of our newspaper the authorities have shown their helplessness and at the same time brutality and degeneracy so much that it is impossible not to respond. Exclusively cynic attitude towards the YUKOS lawyer Aleksanian has led us to the idea that henceforth the “For Freedom” group would render assistance not only to political prisoners but to those people who have never aspired to change the established order but who are actively subjected to the authorities’ political repression. A special section elucidating such cases and informing about actions in support of such persons would probably appear at our website. Don’t hesitate to provide information or ideas as well as to apply for support.
The authorities’ degeneracy was manifested in denial of conditionally release to journalist Boris Stomakhin imprisoned since March 2006. Boris has his spine and both legs broken and knitted in improper way, he is actually a disabled person. What is this regime like if it is afraid of dead-sick Aleksanian and disabled Stomakhin?
In fall 2007 we learned that the political prisoner on Odessa case Igor Danilov had caught tuberculosis. Now he is imprisoned in Dnepropetrovsk colony for consumptives. A petition for his pardon is applied; besides, papers on his health condition are directed to the European Court where other papers on Odessa case are located. During the period after the last issue the most significant funds for newspaper support and assistance to political prisoners were donated by comrades Buydakov, Savelkov, Slobodkin, Gaysin, Strelko, Alekseev, Kunaeva, Volkov, comrades Nikolay (Perm), Sergey (Moscow) and recently released Alexander Chervyakov.
